Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about our intuition. For most of us we get this feeling deep inside of us before any decision we make, whether major or minor. When we apply for a job, or accept a job offer, or decide to date someone, or marry them, we might get certain thoughts telling us that this isn’t a good idea. We might even get a feeling in our stomach that feels like a warning. Sometimes we brush them off as just usual doubts and fears.
As someone with extreme anxiety, a lot of times I think I’m just worrying too much as usual. As weeks, months or even years go by, you somehow see that those hesitations that you were feeling were correct more times than not. Now I’m starting to wonder what would happen if I followed my intuition every time. What if instead of brushing off my feelings as my usual nerves I actually trust in it. Maybe there’s something to that saying: Trust Your Gut. If you trusted your gut every time, how would your life look today?
Have you ever taken a test and a feeling told you to pick a certain answer, but you chose differently, and you were actually right the first time? Have you accepted a job position out of desperation when you knew that it wasn’t a good fit for you? Have you ever questioned dating someone and gave the reasons why you felt that it was a bad idea, but people told you that your worries/fears were in your head? So you date that person, and it played out exactly how you feared. Some people will say that it’s just your thoughts turning your situation into that reality, but what if your gut was just telling you something? What if it was saying . . . NO, This Isn’t It! We don’t give our intuition enough credit. Maybe when we feel hesitant, we should actually listen to ourselves and dig deeper. Why are we feeling hesitant? What is our intuition telling us?
Moving forward I’m going to pay more attention to how I’m feeling when I have to make important decisions. I’m not going to passively brush off everything as nerves and fears. I’m going to try to become more in tune with myself and see what my intuition is telling me. I’m going to trust my gut, because it’s proved itself to be right a countless number of times. I second guessed everything, and I never stopped to realize how often my initial thoughts and feelings were right. If I’m very hesitant about something, then there’s a reason why, and I need to trust in that feeling and see why I’m not sure about it. There are some things that you’re never going to be 100% sure about, but we owe ourselves to feel confident enough that we’re making the right decision for our future. Trust in yourself.
